The main ways to make
visitors keep coming back to a website is to provide fresh
content and make the site fun and interactive.
If you have viewed my clients/portfolio,
and read how I became a web designer
and visited all the websites mentioned in either, you
will see that many of the sites have sticky content eg:
- Bulletin Board
- Chat Room
- Radio Station (try the one on this site)
- Guestbook
- News Tickers
- Useful links to external websites
- Jokebooks
- Photo Galleries which are constantly updated with
fresh images
- Quizzes and Minipolls
These items exist on the site to make people come back.
Some examples of how the above items were used on the
sites I have built, are as follows:
The Bulletin Board has been used extensively
on the Church
of Scotland Impact site. When team leaders have prayer
requests, or need to ask the advice of experienced mission
people, they post a query on the board, and normally within
a few days, several people will have answered the query.
This means that people not only visit the page to post
queries, but they are on the site to answer queries also
(a double catch!)
The Chat Room on the BaptistYouth
site has been used by the youth as a place to arrange
to meet up regularly and chat about anything and everything.
The Radio Station on this site, is used as an
added extra, to enhance the visitor's browsing experience.
If people like my radio station, they will encourage others
to come to this website and try out the radio station
also - increased traffic through word of mouth (also known
as viral marketing).
Useful links to external sites - My JugglingWorld
website has a useful links page. It contains links to
the most popular juggling web pages I have found on the
Internet. If a person visiting my site likes all of my
external links, they might consider bookmarking my site,
so that they can come back at a later date and visit the
sites again. This will save them bookmarking all of the
sites I link to.
Quizzes and Minipolls - are very useful tools
if you want to find out the answer to a certain question
from visitors to your website eg "have you purchased
our product before"? They can also be used as a competition
(win a prize), with the answer to the question found somewhere
on the site (this will involve visitors hunting through
your site for the answer - and in the process maybe finding
out a lot about your company and deciding to make a purchase).
Most of the above items can be built into the web design
contract. They can all be added to a site for little cost
(if you do not mind third party advertising), or some
cost, if you require the advertising to be removed or
more advanced features. There are many more items you
can add to the website which will keep people coming back
for more...and more...and more!
Request's
I cannot possibly offer every web design service in the
world, but I will continue to keep learning more about
web design, so if there is a feature for a website you
would like added, please contact me.
I no longer accept new work, but am happy to point you in the right
direction for your web design needs!
Alongside the freelance web design work, I am a professional
juggler, and I run an online juggling equipment and novelty
items store. These 2 ventures are my main source of income
which is why I no longer do website design for new clients!
It would be great if you could check out the websites
