After Graduation - what happened next?
- I took a summer off to do several Church missions,
and then found a job working as a temp administration
officer for the Scottish Environmental Protection
Agency (SEPA). I was still applying for jobs as a
web designer, but they were few and far between in
Stirling! I was then interviewed by Scottish and Universal
Newspapers (S&UN), and given a three week trial
(29 Nov - 18 Dec, 1999). During my time at S&UN,
I built a website dedicated to Robert Burns
- Scotlands favourite poet. |
S&UN were taken over by the Trinity Mirror group just after my three week trial and all hiring was postponed indefinitely. I had really enjoyed my 3 week stint, and now knew that I definitely wanted to become a full-time web designer. I went back to working at SEPA until I could find a web design job. I didn't have to look very far! While I was working for the Personnel Department, the Head of Training (Martin Patterson) asked if I would consider building an Intranet site for his department. When I had designed and launched this Intranet site, I was then asked to build another Intranet site, and then another, and then another
. In the end, my two week return to SEPA lasted 7 months! I built Intranet sites for: - Training and Development
- Procurement
- Finance
- Standard Financial Instructions
- Environmental Management Team
- Organisational Development Team
I am not permitted to show any screenshots of any of these sites, as they are only available as part of SEPA's Intranet. I do however, have a reference from the man who first hired me at SEPA to build his Intranet site. Reference from Martin Patterson
